...SHARPLY COLDER WIND CHILLS AND ICY ROADS WILL BE AN ISSUE TONIGHT...
ALTHOUGH THE FALLING SNOW IS MOVING EAST OF THE QUAD STATE REGION...TRAVEL
WILL STILL REMAIN HAZARDOUS FOR THOSE PLANNING TO VENTURE OUT THIS
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT.
QUITE A NUMBER OF REPORTS FROM ACROSS THE REGION INDICATE THAT
MANY ROADWAYS HAVE ALREADY BECOME SLICK AND HAZARDOUS.
THE FRIGID TEMPERATURES WILL REFREEZE ANY REMAINING WATER INTO
ICE ON SIDEWALKS...AS WELL AS UNTREATED OR WET ROADWAYS. SOME
ROADWAYS THAT APPEAR DRY MAY BE COATED WITH A THIN LAYER OF
ICE...COMMONLY KNOWN AS BLACK ICE...DUE TO ITS TRANSPARENT NATURE.
THESE SURFACES CAN BECOME SLICK AND DANGEROUS FOR PEDESTRIANS...AS
WELL AS DRIVERS THAT TRAVEL TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS.
PEDESTRIANS AND DRIVERS SHOULD ALLOW EXTRA TIME TO REACH THEIR
DESTINATION. FOR THE SAKE OF SAFETY...CONSIDER LETTING OTHERS KNOW WHAT
ROUTE YOU MAY BE TRAVELING AND WHAT TIME YOU EXPECT TO ARRIVE AT
YOUR DESTINATION.
TEMPERATURES BEHIND THIS WEATHER SYSTEM WILL FALL THROUGH THE
TEENS EARLY ON...SETTLING INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS AND LOWER TEENS
BY DAYBREAK FRIDAY.
IN ADDITION TO THE COLD TEMPERATURES...WINDS WILL PICK UP DURING
THE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS. THIS WILL GENERATE WIDESPREAD
WIND CHILLS IN THE SINGLE DIGITS THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING. NEAR
ZERO TO BELOW ZERO READINGS WILL BE COMMON OVERNIGHT AND THROUGH
DAYBREAK FRIDAY. BE SURE TO DRESS IN LAYERS AND COVER ANY EXPOSED SKIN
FROM THE COLD AIR TO MINIMIZE THE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPING
FROSTBITE.
WINTER CAN BE AN ENJOYABLE TIME...BUT BE SURE TO USE COMMON SENSE
AND SAFETY WHEN DRIVING OR WALKING OUT IN THE COLD WEATHER THIS
TIME OF YEAR.
