Wild WIld Tuesday

A powerful cold fornt and low pressure will effect West KY and surrounding areas today.

**STRONG WINDS BOTH FOR THUNDERSTORMS AND NON THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE TODAY **

Also there is a isolated tornado threat also.

Snowfall can be possible behind all of this to.

So we got winds, heavy rain, tornadoes, snow, thunderstorm winds all to track in one day.

Wild Tuesday Ahead

There looks to be a wild day for tommrow. Severe Weather, Winds, Heavy Rain, Isoalted Tornadoes, and even some backlash Snow are all possbible tommrow and tommrow night. First of all a powerful low pressure system will move though the area. Folowed by gulf moisture being poured in. Despite temps in the 50's shear and steep lapse rates will suppurt Damaging Winds in excess of 70 mPH and isolated tornadoes and every locally heavy rain and ponidng of roads. Then dependding on backlash maype some light snow acculamtions in some West KY areas that night. Then Thursday we play the same game except severe weather probably wont be a issue Thursday.

Damaging Winds will be an issue an damge can occur even without a single severe storm just with non Thunderstorm wind so be careful out there.

Windy Week Ahead

Two powerful low systems will effect the West KY area this week. One Tuesday and another Thursday into Friday Morning. These systems can produce wind gusts in the 30 to 45mph and probably will conjur up wind advisorys. The Thursday system looks well windy. Remeber that widn gusts of 45 mph even though not coming from thunderstorms can cause damage to trees and powerlines and such so you still need to watch out for it. Also thunderstorms either day can bring stronger winds to the surface. In the next few week we will be in March pattern not a Jan and Feb

Slick roads then Warmth

A freezing rain adviosry is effect till 9 for most of West KY

After the freezing drizzle and slick spots the roads will warm allow temps in the 40's and 50's this weekend into next week.

Chances of rain and thunderstorms could be possible next week.

Blizzard (1978) production

This is an anniversary but it should be a movie production that you can do while laying in the fiction that is snowfall 30 years later with some hot chocolate in hand. So grab your production for this look back that several of your NWS offices show you on a precursor storm in West KY that laid west KY snow covered. Then watch from Kentucky northward get socked from one of the worst snowstorms ever of course for west KY came along Dec 22nd and 23rd 2004 though. Anyway check out this good link which leads to good links and enjoy the production any info about this storm on Jan 25th-27th or even the storm but a week before in Paduach and West KY there was a widespread 11 inch snowfall on Jan 16th then 6 inches during the Blizzard of 78 and also strong winds in excess at times of 40 and 50mph caused some of that snow that didn't totally melt and the new snow to blow into giant drifts.

^^ From Indy a lot of great links for the storm up there and the storm all together

Enjoy this feature presention brought to you by the NWS, and historic models, people who experienced the storm because I wasn't alive for that time.

Boomin the Bust

I'm very dissapointed in tihs system

- Evap Cooling looked more like Evap Warming

- Warm Air Advection stole the show for this system and is the reason why if oyur a school child in west ky or middle TN you are sitting in school right now.

Some great links also check the pages to your left most with great infomation on this storm.

Still looks like 2 to 3 inches of snow in west ky

i will get some weather stickers for west ky locations now

Stay TUned.

Boomin The Call Map (1/21-1/22)

This call map is courtesy of Geology Com. For this call map I fell that there is a zone mostly north of US 62 that will probably see moslty snow with maype some sleet or freezing drizzle mixing in. Strong foricng may also led to some heavy nsows just before and during morning rush hour then turn lighter after 6 or 7am. Then in the southern part of the area change to rain or freezing drizzle most precip sohuld be over by 11am with a stray flurry or sleet as the wind changes to the west northwest in the afternoon. This is a pretty hazardous travel morning rush hour so rember your Winter WX safety rules.

Call map tonight 2nd one for (1/22)

Forest Green- Which is your area includes Daviess, Henderson, Mclean, Union, and Webster counties. I like for mostly all snow and maype some sleet in your area. Very slimar to what you said depending on strength of the warm air which still looks ot be mostly all snow with a little sleet maype parts of Webster and Mclean counties get a little rain just before the end depending on the stength of warm air advection. (very slimar situation in Illnois and Indiana to)
Orange- Mccracken, Ballard, Livingston, and Crittenden. Still mostly snow/sleet in this area maype not as much as the Forrest Green zone but still some snow/sleet acculamtions possible. Frezzing rain can't be ruled out here.
Brown Green Zone- Caldwell, Marshall, Calloway, Lyon, Hopkins. This is probably going to be the hardest zone to make a forcast for. This area is sitting on the mostly snow/ Ice with a little snow and sleet line. Areas like Calvert City though Madisonville north in this area have abetter chance at seeing more snow than ice. While south of that line in areas like Murray, Dawson Springs look to be a total mix of sleet, snow, frezzing rain but freezing rain and sleet should be the dominit precip probably unless we get supised will end as rain and my briefly melt. With lows in the upper teens any wet spots on the roads freeze and amke trael hazardous Tuesday Night.
Gray Zone- Christian, Trigg, Todd, Muhlenburg where I live at. This could be a very interesting zone to be in. If more moisture is present some decent ice acculamtions maype .1 to .2 inches may be possible on top of a very small coat of snow and sleet. Like you said this is the fun zone looks quite nightmarish for travel in this area so far on Tuesday Morning. While .1 inch of ice don't see like that much a Central City or Hopkinsville morning rush hour trip on that .1 inch of ice is probably enough for schools to cancell and even afternoon events to reschedule. Ice in Kentucky can be a hazard to travel. I will be looking forward to see the progress of the snow/ice here interesting if verifes. With warm air advection rain may melt a good deal of fun away.
Yellow Zone- Graves, Carlise, Hickman, Fulton counties. This also looks to be a pretty nasty situaiton for some light ice acculamtion and maype a half inch of snow. If the moisture is the models is under done you could be looking at an decent icing event. Snow/Sleet/Rain should follow this system out of the zone by 11am.I will have to update that on my blogspot this will probably change as I do another update on Tommrow afternoon.

Call map number 1 sun night update (1/22)

coutersyo f geology.com a call map. Snow with some sleet may be possible in the Henderson/Owensburo/Morganfield KY area. If mositure is underodne by models some good sno acculamtion is possible going arrgessive with 1-4 at the time. WIth a mix to the west and some 1/10 to 2/10 ice acculamtion from Fulton though Murray though Hopkinsville and Central City/Greenvilel KY.

Chances of Interest

There is gonna to be a storm that needs to watched on Tuesday Jan 22nd. This looks to be an evaporative cooling/ wet bulb situation in which could provide interest across most of West KY. This needs to be watched to see if there is any effects of this system it looks like better chance for pure snow to be north of US 62 because areas south of the US 62 may mix a little more with rain and maype a little sleet or freezing rain cant be totally ruled out either.

A storm that looks to effect TN may capture attenion Wed Night-Thurs Morning

Then a potent storm looks to maype effect anyone in the Central or Eastern US Thurs Night- Fri and even another chance into Saturday.

A week of dissapointment and or hope may be in the horizon more details later.

Morning after in Mid South Street

It is the morning after West KY. I have to say overall i'm kinda impressed in this system, even tohugh I won't get out of school some people like Crittenden, Caldwell, Webster, Union counties got hlucky. And a few more got delayed. Overall it looked like 1 to 3 inches of snow fell in a good portion of West KY the first widespread snow event of the season. Public Information statements will be posted and discussed this afternoon. Overall the models didnt even expect all this moisture moving north. So you can defianly call this a suprise.

Update on the Mid South Street

Lawrenceburg TN has reported SNOW

Radar is starting ot possbily show mix coming in southern TN and higher elevations of Franklin County TN. Areas from Winchester to Celina TN are under a Winter Weather Advisory. Which means that travel could be an inconvient hazard for a little while but not as severe as a warning. 1 inch of snow/ sleet acculamtion is possible in this area. Minor icing problems may also occur.

IN west KY moisture may be a problem if we can get decent moisture than a quick and maype somewhat intense sleet/snow mix may occur alongwith changing to rain melting the slush and ending and sending all of West KY to school on time. The time period for winter wx is anywhere from 9pm-3am in the Pleteau 8pm-3 or 4am down in TN.

Hope for a Miracle on Mid South Street

As it looks some sleet changing to rain is possible tonight into early Thursday Morning. It will take a miracle to get some good accumulation in this area. Maype better look down in TN in the Plateau and and Mountains. If we hope for a miracle maype we can get something. It looks like the models may try and squeak a small glimmer of hope. Of course an active pattern is gonna set up so next week just be interesting. For West KY moisture is gonna be a problem whether rain or snow as you get up in West KY.

Winter Time Is Not Dead

A fact that is truer that non fiction if there is warmth in winter it doesn't last forever. Temps will flatline in the 30's for highs thougohut the week warming ot the 40's across West KY. Some flurries and even some light snow shower generation is possible today though Monday across the West KY lands. Best chance for a light snow shower is in the Henderson area.

Tornadoes possible In TN

There is a slight risk of severe weather in West KY east of lakes. WIth isolated tornadoes and wind being the threat.

First Severe Threat of 2008

January 8th will present it's threat of severe weather. It is a low capea high shear situation so if the sun breaks out we will be trouble. I dont expect whats happing today happening but a increase of instablity spells trouble.

Quick OVerview
- Damaging winds are possilbe along a squall line with an isolated torando and hail possible. Threat time is from 10am-4pm across West KY
- Non thunderstorm winds are another big issue
