Severe Weather Briefing from Paducah

NOAA is important.

Make sure that if you are in Western KY or surrounding areas that you have a NOAA Weather Radio handy. NOAA Weather radios save lives during severe and especially nocturnal events. It is important that you are able to be awaken from sleep in an event of a Tornado Watch or Warning. If you don't have a NOAA have some way of being warned during the night.

Potenial Outbreak Tuesday Night

Urgent!! The SPC has placed a Moderate Risk of Severe Weather from a Paris TN to Hopkinsville KY line northward. Very Large Hail, Tornadoes, and Damaging Winds are possible across Western Kentucky on Tuesday Night into the Wee morning hours of Wednesday. Take this time to review your Tornado and Severe Weather Safety rules, and put batteries in your NOAA.

Time-frame appears to be from 11pm-7am Wednesday.

River Flooding Update

Minor to Moderate Flooding event occurring across Green and Ohio Rivers. So watch out over the coming days. Upwards to 4 inches of rain may fall this week along the Ohio River or to the north which will further aggravate river flooding.

A threat for late Tuesday

An active severe weather event is looking more and more likely to strike the Central US and Ohio Valley on Tuesday and Tuesday Night. Western Kentucky is included in this threat so we need to watch it carefully. Prayers and thoughts sent to the Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Virginia storm victims.

An EF-0 and an EF-1 Tornado did minor damage mostly to trees in Trigg County last night.

About Last Night

Last night some severe weather did occur but luckily no real serious damage or any injuries happened across Western Kentucky. There were some quarter to golfball size hail reported, and a funnel cloud reported from Cadiz to Nortonville with no touchdown reported.

Areas of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama were not so lucky so keep those people in your thoughts and prayers.

Another threat of strong to severe storms and heavy rain is possible on Tuesday Night, but it is too early to go into the exact details of that threat. Overall the pattern appears warm, wet, and stormy throughout the last half of April heading into May.

In the Clear

It appears that the threat for Severe Weather is pretty much over for Western KY. Overall some hail events(pea size to up to golfball sized, and a few funnel cloud reports from Cadiz to Nortonville KY nothing major as far as damage is concerned.

Funnel Cloud reported with the Trigg County storm could move into Southern Caldwell into far NW Christian County.

Tornado Warning NE Calloway/NW Trigg

Rotation is east of Dexter. Canton/Energy and Land Between the lakes area need to take cover. Large Hail and damaging winds are also a threat.

Severe Storms are impacting the Mayfield/Paducah KY area moving eastward. T-Storm Warnings are in effect and large hail and damaging winds are the threats. Golfball sized hail or greater is possible.

Tornado Watch 142 has been extended

Tornado Watch 142 has been extended to include all of Western Kentucky till 9pm. Large Hail is the main threat in storms, but damaging winds and perhaps a tornado spinup cannot be ruled out.

Update

Storms are moving into Western KY right now from both Missouri and Western Tennessee. These storms could produce large hail, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out large hail will be the main threat in these storms. Tornado Watch till 9pm for most of Western KY and NW Middle Tennessee

Storm Update

Severe storms are possible on Friday. Two rounds are expected a first round with some wind/hail threat in the mid-morning into the midday. Round two will depend on what happens with Round one, and how much clearing can occur and how far north the moisture transports.

If enough clearing occurs then storms that could produce very large hail, and damaging winds with some chance of an isolated tornado can be possible later in the afternoon after 2pm across Western Kentucky and the TN river area of Middle Tennessee. The best threat will be along the TN river/lakes area westward. If enough convective debris does occur after round 1 then the threat on Round 2 won't be as great.

April 14th overview

Active severe weather may occur especially to the south of the Western KY. In Western KY the jet energy is enough, with a gradually becoming unstable atmosphere to allow for severe storms to form during the day Friday.

Update time

70's tomorrow and Thursday for temperatures. More thunderstorms Friday and my fellow warm-loving, sun-shine friends Saturday won't be a good weather day.

- After the rainfall of yesterday we at least get a nice break for a few days. The next system down the pike is on Friday locally heavy rain, and thunderstorms are possible some of these may be strong or severe so we will need to watch those.
