Slight Risk of Severe Weather

A Slight Risk of Severe Weather for tonight into the wee morning hours of Monday from a line that extends from Murray to Owensboro westward. Slight Risk later in the morning for all of Middle Tennessee, and from a Cadiz to Greenville KY line southward. If storms go severe damaging winds would be the main threat in both cases. The main time-frame will be from 3am-9am for Western KY.

There is a Wind Advisory for the area today. With 45mph+ winds possible this afternoon and evening.

A slight risk of Severe WX exists from US 45 westward, with isolated to widely scattered damaging winds the main threat.

- The severe threat is over, and shouldn't be an issue for us Sunday-Monday. In matter of fact we may not even get a whole lot of rain as the best dynamics will be in North IL/Wisconsin/Iowa area.

Storms are forming west of the Miss. River and NW of the Ohio River. These storms could produce damaging winds/large hail a Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be needed shortly.

This has all the links for the tornado touchdowns. There have been 5 tornadoes confirmed in the Western Kentucky portion of yesterdays Severe Weather Outbreak. Two EF-2's, Two EF-1's and One EF-0.

Hopkinsville KY area tornado EF-2

The Hopkinsville KY area tornado was rated an EF-2 with winds of 130MPH. It touched down at the Industrial park and moved 4.7 miles and ended just northeast of Pembroke KY.

Greenville KY Tornado Survey

The Greenville KY Tornado was rated an upper end EF-1 with winds of 109MPH, it caused 3 injuries and damage to a mobile home park. This is from yesterday's severe weather.

Damage survey complete for Ballard County Kentucky. One EF-1 tornado, and One EF-2 Tornado occurred. The Slater and Hinkleville KY areas got hit with this storm. Christian and Muhlenberg get surveyed tomorrow.

Look at the Greenville KY Storm, The Westward Rotation

Rotation in this case, was on the backside of the Greenville KY storm. A lot of times the public, and even me sometimes(even though I should know better) look closer to the leading edge of the storm, or the south part of the storm for the rotation. In the case the rotation was on the western edge of the storm.

For radar observers the rotation isn't always on the south or southeast part of the storm, in this case where the favorable atmospheric winds are closer to the backside of the storm, the rotation and tornado formed on the western part of the storm.

- Storms have moved through the area this morning-afternoon. Some of the worst damage is in Hopkinsville(Christian County) and Greenville KY(Muhlenberg County). More updates as we go throughout the day. Also some structual damage was reported in La Center KY(Ballard County).

Severe Update

Watch out for severe weather today in the form of Damaging Winds/Large Hail across Western Kentucky and Western Middle Tennessee. A MDT risk exists in Western Mid TN(where a more widespread wind threat may exist). Time-frame appears to be from 9am to 2:30pm in Western KY, and 11:30am-7pm in Middle TN.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50MPH are possible today with a Wind Advisory until 7pm in effect

Temps. are well into the 80's across Western KY. Update on the Severe WX Threat.

Whipping Winds Whip

High Winds are a concern, lower humidity in the afternoon will also cause some wildfire concern. So restrict burning for today. Wind gusts of up to 50MPH are possible this afternoon and tonight.

Not an April Fools Joke, a real threat looms

Showers today, the weekend turns very nice. The start of the week turns very nasty. A severe weather event is becoming likely for all of Western Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee during the daytime hours of Monday into the overnight hours of Monday. With Tater Day in Marshall County, and a possible big time college basketball game, this threat is of concern.
