Back in 1890.

Talks about the Louisville Tornado of 1890, but the map on Page 13 shows the outbreak in Western Kentucky. Which featured 2 F4 tornadoes, 1 F3 and another F2 across Western KY, another F4 touched down just to the east of Western KY.

- The main F4 tornado which may of been a family of tornadoes formed just West of Paducah, then cut across McCracken,Livingston,Crittenden,Webster,Mclean,Daviess. Another F4 formed in Marshall/Lyon County and struck Grand Rivers KY really hard. At least 30 fatalities occurred in these storms across Western Kentucky.

- Snowfall is possible. Upper 70's/Lower 80's one week, snowfall possible the next. This is what we call a normal March in Western Kentucky.

2.4 Earthquake in the Paducah KY area today.
- No damage reported, as a 2.4 quake is pretty minor, you may of felt it a little bit near the epicenter, but other than that it would be unknown if it wasn't for a seismograph.

Cooler Days

The warm weather was nice while it lasted. 40's today. A rainy and cooler Saturday. A drier, but still cool Sunday. An awful Monday forecast with rain, and temps. in the 40's, and maybe even a snow flurry mixing in. Still cool into early next week.

Status Update

Tornado Watch cancelled for Western Kentucky, only scattered pea to quarter size hail to deal with today. The severe threat is over, with Eastern Mid TN having to deal with some hail that will move out this evening. Say hello to highs in the 40's tomorrow.

Update

The Amber Alert is for a situation that occurred in Metcalfe county in South Central Kentucky, after two children disappeared from the scene of a double homicide. River Flood Situation

Major Flooding
- Ohio River at Cairo(should crest Friday). Some road closures along the river, and any unprotected property along the river is the concern.
- Ohio River at Grand Chain (should crest Friday) Some road closures along the river, and any unprotected property along the river is the concern. If any heavier rain arrives next week, another crest is possible.

Moderate Flooding
- Mississippi River at New Madrid(should crest over the weekend any heavier rains next week could cause another crest). Roads may close, any property could be threatened.
- Ohio River at Shawneetown, and Mount Vernon(should crest within a day or two, than start to fall). Rural roads around the river, are closed.

Minor Flooding
- All the rest of the rivers. Some rural roads may close, and farmland could flood. The Green River at Paradise and Calhoun is falling back towards Minor Flood Stage, and should exit flood stage by early next week.

Warm up a lot faster than expected. Could see some 70's today.

Watch out for some Moderate to near Major flooding along parts of the Green and Ohio Rivers. The river flooding is caused by snowmelt, and increased precipitation in February, Early March. Roads near the river, and possibly even a few structures are expected to be impacted.

Update on Tsunami and Earthquake


- The 8.9 quake was the 5th strongest earthquake in the world since 1900.

5 to 6 feet waves in parts of Hawaii, Tsunami Waves of 3 feet, can cause some damage on the coast, so the main concern for the west coast is to evacuate the beaches, and immediate coastline.

Rainy Nights

Locally heavy rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible tonight into early tomorrow. No big time flooding is expected, but some ponding of roadways, and streams could rise out of there banks if heavier showers pass by.

· Kentucky averages around 10 tornadoes per year, however the number each year can vary greatly, for instance in 1997 Kentucky experienced 39 tornadoes.
· Kentucky’s highest chance for a tornado is in the month of April.
· Most tornadoes are rated as EF0 to EF1.
· 80 people on average die each year from tornadoes.
· Over 1,500 are injured from tornadoes in an average year.

· Most often tornadoes travel around 30 mph but are capable of going 70 mph or are even capable of standing still.
